FruitCare 2020: Fedefruta will analyze the role of fruit growing in the New Constitution of Chile

The meeting will be held in order to analyze the points related to the pandemic harvest season, the situation of the world and local economy in the coming months, the tasks to face the water crisis in agricultural regions, the deepening and diversification of markets for Chilean fruit, and also to talk about the new scenario that opens after the result of the last Plebiscite.

This Wednesday, October 28, in the plenary of FruitCare 2020, the Federation of Fruit Producers of Chile (Fedefruta) will address the role that the fruit sector should have in the discussion of the new Constitution of Chile.

The conversation will take place in the panel "Configuration of Export Fruit Growing in a Pandemic and Water Crisis", in which the guests invited by the president of Fedefruta, Jorge Valenzuela, will participate, led by the Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Walker, and the Ambassador of Chile in China, Luis Schmidt, the General Director of ProChile, Jorge O'Ryan, and the former president of the Central Bank, Rodrigo Vergara.

The meeting will be held in order to analyze the points related to the pandemic harvest season, the situation of the world and local economy in the coming months, the tasks to face the water crisis in agricultural regions, the deepening and diversification of markets for Chilean fruit, and also to talk about the new scenario that opens after the result of the last Plebiscite, and how Chilean fruit growing and agriculture should contribute to the process of a new Constitution for Chile.

Big themes

Along with addressing the result of the Plebiscite and what this mandate of citizenship implies, the themes of the FruitCare 2020 panel will focus on the challenges of this season in relation to crops in pandemic, the coordination of sanitary measures, care and the safety of national and foreign workers, and the demands of the markets in terms of safety.

In the same context, the state of the markets and the world economy during these months of the Pandemic will be reviewed, as well as the fluctuations in the recovery and decline of the countries and how this impacts on fruit exports.

Water

The water crisis and the water issue will also be discussed at FruitCare 2020, making progress on points such as water availability for the irrigation and harvest season, the design of public policies for the development of a water matrix based on the needs by region, and access to new irrigation technologies and training to use them efficiently, among other points related to this issue.

Markets

The guests will exchange views on the opportunities to diversify and deepen the markets for Chilean fruit and will also address the role of the State in this task. It will also talk about the understanding of new sales channels such as e-Commerce and the acceleration of digital tools in Pandemic, which are clearly already changing the business model.
