"Until now the demand for Chilean blueberries has been greater than last year"

Horacio Ozer Ami and Esther van der Hoorn represent the European sales office of the Chilean blueberry production company Carsol Fruit in the Netherlands. So far they have done very well, according to Esther. "Until December, there has been good demand. January starts traditionally quieter, but at the moment the demand is very strong compared to last year. There have been many agreements with supermarkets and there are also many agreements planned for February, when a reasonable increase in volume is expected, so the market is well balanced".

At the moment, Chilean blueberries dominate the market. "From Peru and Morocco a quite small volume is arriving at a low rate, something earlier than last year"Says Esther. According to the sales manager, Europe is an important market for Chilean blueberries. "The majority of the total volume continues going to the USA. UU You can see how the volume towards Europe increases slightly, but I would not be surprised if these export ratios changed due to the exchange rate of the dollar and sent less to Europe".

"The blueberry plantation in Chile is still growing, but not to the same extent as a few years ago. However, plantations in recent years are still causing volume increases"Explains Esther, which indicates that the quality of Chilean blueberries is good this season. "The appearance and taste of blueberries are good, but it has rained a lot during the growth phase, which can cause problems for some varieties. Our advantage is that we sell the 100% of our own production, which allows a greater continuity in quality than when buying multiple plantations".

"As we sell our own production, we know what supply to expect by variety and we can estimate quality well. This means that we can give our clients detailed information and we can plan better"Explains Esther. "The lines are short and we make sure that the programs are well closed. We pack in Chile and in the Netherlands, exactly as the client wants. We are present mainly in Scandinavia, Germany and the United Kingdom, but we sell throughout Europe and so people feel that it is much easier to find us".
