Hortifrut Perú sends 32 containers of blueberries to China through the Port of Chancay in just 23 days

Hortifrut Perú has successfully completed its first shipment of blueberries to China through the Port of Chancay, a modern port infrastructure recently inaugurated. The shipment, which consisted of 32 containers, arrived in the Asian country on December 18, bound for the ports of Shanghai and Hong Kong, in a record time of just 23 days.
Fernando Méndez, general manager of Hortifrut Perú, expressed his satisfaction with this achievement: “This first shipment demonstrates not only the efficiency of the Port of Chancay, but also its ability to accelerate export times, which represents a great opportunity to boost the Peruvian agricultural sector and strengthen our presence in key markets.”
The shipment, composed mainly of Tasty blueberries, a variety highly recognized for its quality and flavor, originated in the Chao district, in the La Libertad region. Of the 32 containers, two thirds corresponded to this premium variety.
Bobby Yavari, CEO of Hortifrut APAC, highlighted the positive impact of the Port of Chancay in optimizing the logistics process: “Thanks to this modern infrastructure, we can guarantee that our blueberries reach our global consumers in perfect condition, which reinforces our commitment to quality.”
Currently, the Chinese market represents 15% of Peruvian berry exports, according to Proarándanos. With growing demand and continuous improvement in port infrastructure, blueberry exports to China are expected to continue to expand in 2025.
