Huelva leads the export of red fruits until July, with a record figure of 1.101 million

Huelva berries register a year-on-year growth of 10,1% and reach 43 countries around the world

The red fruit exports from the province of Huelva have recorded a historic sales record reaching 1.101 billion euros in the first seven months of 2024, which represents a year-on-year growth of 10,1%. These figures consolidate the province of Huelva as the leading exporter of berries in Spain, accounting for almost 77% of exports, a long way behind Valencia, which occupies second place with 10,3%, and place it as the province in all of Spain that contributes the most (7,8%) to Spanish growth (+11,6%).

Thus, Red fruits from Huelva make Andalusia, with 80% of the total, in the first autonomous community in sales in Spain, 68,8 points above the Valencian Community, whose foreign transactions represent 11,2% of the national total.

Furthermore, The Huelva berry sector contributes 1.029 million of positive balance in Andalusia's trade balance thanks to a small import value of 72 million, which means that exports are 15 times greater than imports.

By product, in the first seven months of the year, strawberries accounted for the largest volume of sales, with 598 million euros, accounting for 54% of the total and a growth of 14,3%. They were followed by raspberries, with 265 million euros invoiced -24,1% of the total- and a rise of 1,5%; and blueberries, with 164 million (14,9%) and a rise of 17,8%.

Main markets

The red fruits from the province of Huelva, which were promoted this week at the international Fruit Attraction fair in Madrid, have reached 43 countries around the world during the first seven months of the year, with Europe being their main destination. In addition, they have experienced growth in 16 of their top 20 markets.

By country, Germany was the largest buyer, with sales of 333 million euros and an increase of 12,2% compared to the first seven months of the previous year. Exports of Huelva berries to Germany account for 30% of the total.

Far behind is the United Kingdom, with a turnover of 172 million (15,6% of the total) and a year-on-year increase of 6%, while France appears in third position, with 135 million in sales and an increase of 9,1%. The Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, Poland and Belgium complete the list. top ten of the main destinations for red fruits from Huelva.

Record in fruit count

Huelva is also on the national podium in terms of total fruit exports. The province of Huelva is second in Spain, also with a historic record, after Valencia (1.376 million and 20,4% of the total), with 1.270 million euros and a growth of 10,2%, contributing 18,8% nationally, with the addition of other fruits such as cherries and some stone fruits such as apricots.
