Blueberry imports in China maintain their growth in value, but decrease in quantity
Blueberries were supplied to the Chinese market in the first eight months of 2024 by three countries: Peru (68.7% share), Chile (31.3%) and Canada (0.1%), said commercial advisor Giovanny Decker.
In the January-August cycle of this year, imports of fresh blueberries from China maintained their growth in value, but decreased in quantity, reported trade advisor Giovanny Decker, based on provisional figures from the General Administration of Customs of China.
He explained that, during this period, China's imports of fresh blueberries reached US$101.4 million, increasing by 9.76%, and its volume was 11.3 million Kg (11,336 MT), decreasing by 7.71% in quantity compared to the same period in 2023.
During the period under review, this product was supplied by three countries, which are detailed below:
Peru: USD 69.7 million (68.7%)
Chile: USD 31.7 million (31.3%)
Canada: USD 11.1 million (0.1%)
He added that, in terms of the value imported by suppliers, Peru (13.9%) and Chile (1.7%) grew, while imports received from Canada (-67.2%) decreased.
However, in terms of volume, all three decreased as detailed below: Peru (-5.8%), Chile (-11.0%) and Canada (-62.5%).

“It is worth mentioning that, during the same period in 2023, the United States was also a supplier of fresh blueberries, but so far, no records of shipments have been identified,” noted Giovanny Decker.
Fresh blueberry importing companies are registered in five provinces, the following:
Guangdong: USD 70.0 million (7,561 MT)
Shanghai: USD 15.4 million (1,796 MT)
Zhejiang: USD 13.0 million (1,624 MT)
Liaoning: USD 2.5 million (307 MT)
Tianjing: USD 393 thousand (47 MT)
