The berry industry maintains its growth trend globally, both in the expansion of consumption and production volumes. These two main variables of the international market are driven mainly by the genetic renewal of crops, which has brought better fruit, of higher quality in flavor, texture, firmness, size and yields.

Juan José Flores, general director of Aneberries, will begin the first day of the meeting, making a “Analysis of the 2023/2024 season: results and projections”, addressing the current state of the Mexican industry and the strategies to overcome the challenges it must face, one of the main ones being the climate and meteorological factor, which has become a significant threat to crops with increasingly intense and harmful to producers. Added to this are increases in production costs, labor challenges and the low value of the dollar, among others.
The Mexican season was projected to grow 15% on average for all berries, however, these variables, mainly climatic ones, have forced these numbers to be adjusted by 20% less than projected, so it is expected that the industry of berries this season will grow less than the expected 15%, although its growth would remain in the double digits.

The present and future situation of the industry, mainly the opportunities for producers, will be complemented by Ricardo Márquez, commercial manager of Fall Creek México, who will present his talk “Update of the blueberry market in Mexico: production, marketing and genetics”.
