Inauguration Expo INIA 2020: Minister Walker highlighted INIA's contribution in adapting crops to the country's agroclimatic reality

For his part, Pedro Bustos, highest authority of the institution, said that “through this event we managed to spread to society all the work we do and that is sometimes unknown by the general public, even though all our developments are present daily. at their tables ”.

Today began Expo INIA 2020, the most important research, extension and transfer event of the Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA), which for the first time was held virtually. The opening activity was attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Walker, who took the opportunity to highlight the “silent” work carried out by INIA researchers in all these years of history, for the benefit of the national agri-food sector.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank the silent work of the INIA researchers, who for many years have been working on the genetic improvement of crops, vegetables and developing new varieties, which has allowed us to improve yields, have better products. and quality, food that has been adapted to the national agroclimatological reality. Chile has to transform itself into a country that produces healthy, nutritious and good-tasting food to differentiate ourselves from producing countries in other latitudes, ”said the head of Minagri.

Then it was the turn of the formal greeting of Pedro Bustos, National Director of INIA, who expressed being very happy for the start of this transcendental institutional event that will last until Friday, December 4. “For us, the INIA Expo is very relevant, because it allows us to spread what we do not only to the sector, but to the general public, to Chilean society that does not know what we do and our role in the country's food chain. Many people are unaware that INIA is present at their tables on a daily basis through the innovations we carry out and that are manifested in quality food developed under a logic of sustainable agriculture ”.
