India relaxed regulations for importation of avocado, blueberries and Chilean nuts

India relaxed import regulations for avocados, blueberries and Chilean nuts and eliminated the requirement to be treated with methyl bromide.

The measure means that the fruit will not be damaged in the export process to India; said Chilean Agriculture Minister Antonio Walker.

"This is very good news for Chilean producers," he said.

«We thought that this process would last much longer; "But leaving aside methyl bromide, we can reach this market using the cold chain and phosphine, which is much more environmentally friendly."

"Our goal is to continue expanding our country's export offer so that Chilean agriculture continues to grow and more exporters join international markets every day."

"We want to do in India what we have done in China." Currently, Chile sends almost USD 180 million in agricultural products to India, far behind China. The two parties signed the agreement at the fifth edition of ChileWeek in China. India approved market access for Chilean avocados and blueberries in April 2017.

Citrus in Chile Week China 2019

Citrus fruits were another Chilean commodity that had space at the fair. The foregoing was in the framework of an effort to promote a fruit that recently obtained a pre-agreement for admission.

Ronald Bown, president of Asoex, the country's fruit exporters association, indicated that “just a few days ago a preliminary entry agreement was signed between the Chilean Minister of Agriculture and the Chinese Customs Minister, which will be ratified by the presidents of both countries in APEC, during the month of November ”.

It should be remembered that a Chinese delegation visited Chile in mid-August in order to visit the citrus production environment and move forward in the process of opening up the Asian country.
