Abundant technical information
Visitors were able to see approximately 20 varieties exhibiting diverse performances based on various management and production systems, both in soil and substrate. The delegation of technicians, professionals, and investors learned about trials and evaluations in detail, as well as strategies to improve fruit firmness and quality.
The effective use of new technologies was evident on the ground, and the team of professionals and technicians—who welcomed and accompanied the delegation through the various barracks and facilities of the fields visited—provided a wealth of information on data, costs, returns, and experience in resolving the difficulties encountered in the area, which is very favorable for blueberry production but also presents challenges.
A complete program
In this framework, the 37th International Blueberry Seminar, which takes place on July 9 and 10 at the Costa del Sol Windham Trujillo Golf Hotel, is of great importance to the national and international blueberry industry, especially for professionals and field technicians, agricultural entrepreneurs from other countries, and investors looking to be part of a profitable and sustainable business in a proven successful area.
The meeting's program is comprehensive and is geared, among other objectives, toward training producers in the use of technology and the correct interpretation of data, both regarding crop performance and the various stages of marketing in the export market.
Genetics also has a prominent place in the meeting program, as it has been proven that the improvements achieved by new varieties have not only improved fruit quality and plant productivity, but have also increased demand for blueberry consumption, making this industry an activity with no ceiling on growth.
A commercial look at the season and the industry's opportunities within the international blueberry market will be another highlight of the program, along with key technical aspects and research on diseases, growth, nutrition, fruit quality, and, above all, its post-harvest life.
Trujillo: a strategic pillar in the blueberry industry in Peru
Peru has established itself as the world's leading blueberry exporter, leading the global market with a high-quality supply and sustained year-round production. Within this success, the Trujillo region, in the department of La Libertad, is the strategic epicenter for the blueberry industry, thanks to its agroclimatic conditions, its agricultural infrastructure, and its proximity to important export routes.
The Trujillo region has climate and soil characteristics that make it ideal for blueberry cultivation. Trujillo's temperate, dry climate is ideal for blueberry production. Moderate temperatures, with minimal variations between day and night, allow for uniform fruit development and contribute to high quality. Furthermore, low rainfall reduces the risk of fungal diseases, favoring the production of healthy fruit with less dependence on agrochemicals.
Social impact
In another area, the blueberry industry has transformed Trujillo's economy, generating employment and improving the living conditions of thousands of families. Blueberry cultivation has boosted job creation in activities such as planting, harvesting, packing, and transportation. Thousands of people, mostly women, find employment opportunities in plantations and processing plants. The growth of the blueberry industry has attracted national and international investment in Trujillo, promoting the development of infrastructure, technology, and training. The industry's boom has improved living conditions in Trujillo's rural communities, offering competitive wages and social responsibility programs that benefit local families.
