IX Iberoamerican Congress Postharvest Technology and Agroexports

We would like to give a cordial welcome to the IX Ibero-American Congress of Post-Harvest Technology and Agro-Exports, an event sponsored by the Ibero-American Association of Post-Harvest Technology (AITEP) to be held in the city of Santiago de Chile between 29 in November and 1 in December of 2017. In this opportunity the congress will be organized jointly by the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Chile and the Agricultural Research Institute (INIA).

As is already traditional of this important scientific event, the congress aims to publicize the advances developed in physiology and technology of postharvest horticultural products, allowing the interaction between lines of work that consider the entire production chain to obtain product from quality. This includes the generation of varieties, aspects of productive management, packaging, cold handling, growth regulators, minimum processing, atmosphere modification, among others.

As we know, the interest, effort and development associated with the export industry of fresh fruits has meant a real contribution to the development of our countries. However, technological gaps persist in the development and use of postharvest technologies, particularly for horticultural species, together with the need to add value to these fresh products, through the innovation of new processes and entrepreneurship. industries that expand the supply of food and cover the increasingly demanding demand of consumers, respecting the environmental and social environment.

The innovation and development of new technologies and processes that ensure, maintain the quality of our products and improve their processing, transport and distribution conditions are more than ever urgent to reduce the enormous losses that affect the production and distribution chain and that in many cases exceed 50%.

Under this scenario, we have accepted with enthusiasm and enthusiasm to organize this Congress because we believe it represents an opportunity to learn, discuss and advance these issues with an integrating Regional vision. Our privileged location as the venue for this event, surrounded by a powerful fruit production and export industry and the presence of recognized universities, research centers and public-private development agencies, provide technical support to this Meeting.

The Center for Post-Harvest Studies (CEPOC) of the Faculty of Agronomic Sciences of the University of Chile and the Post-Harvest Unit of the Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA), with the collaboration of the main research groups in Chilean Post-harvest and Latin America, invite you to participate and collaborate to make this Congress a success and at the same time a scientific and technological contribution to the sustainable development of the horticultural industry of the Region.
