The World Bank Report ensures that for 2030 the majority of the income and resources necessary to combat or eradicate poverty will come from activities related to agricultural production in the countryside, so that for countries and their rulers, strengthen and strengthen the Agricultural sector is fundamental and strategic.

The demand for workforce in the food sector is almost inexhaustible, since it covers areas such as services, transportation, packaging, logistics, distribution, promotion, scientific research, technology, innovation, communications, among many other tasks, so it is essential to support the growth of food value chains and promote agricultural culture in a sustainable and resilient perspective in the face of the impact of climate change, since it is evident that the increase in temperatures in the world is affecting the yield of crops, threatening the supply food.

In this objective, it is necessary to improve the technology applied to crops, systematize the knowledge of farmers, rationalize and optimize water management, organize producers to better face the challenges of the sector. The public sector must invest in infrastructure, which is never enough, and in the private sector it is necessary to strengthen investment and participation, since 9 of each 10 jobs are created by this sector.

Women and technology

According to the World Bank, it is an urgent task to promote gender equality in this sector of production. Women also know how to work the land or develop technology applied to food and innovative projects in the markets. It is urgent because, according to the International Labor Organization, ILO, in 2016 the unemployment rate of women in Latin America was 9,8%, so for the first time in a decade this figure is close to the 2 digits.

Promoting also the application of new technologies in the sector is a great goal to achieve, since the various possibilities offered generate new opportunities for the development of all areas, promoting new jobs and helping to generate more jobs and better income .

The report advises to incorporate this battery of subjects in the university programs of agricultural studies to update the skills of those who will be dedicated to this area. It is necessary to define and measure the qualities and competencies required by each employee in the different areas of the food system, this is also a condition to expand the range of possibilities.

The World Bank assures that the agri-food sector will be the main protagonist in the future world of work and entrepreneurship, so that facing each one of these processes is important to create an entrepreneurial ecosystem that promotes small and medium enterprises and enhances the development of emerging initiatives.
