At the end of the first half of 2022, berry exports totaled 467.153 tons, 8,78% more compared to the same period in 2021, when 429.428 tons were sold abroad and are ranked as the main agri-food export product, reported the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The federal agency detailed that from January to June all varieties of strawberries (blueberry, raspberry, strawberry, blackberry and unclassified) had increases in their export volume, which generated an economic spill of 2.492 million dollars, with exports to 38 countries.

The shipment abroad of berries unclassified amounted to 369 tons, with a value of 1,471 million dollars and a growth of 609% compared to the same period in 2021, while that of blueberries registered 58.034 tons, with a value of 513.864.000 dollars and an increase of 5,02% per year.

Raspberry sales abroad stood at 79.679 tons in the January-June period of this year with a value of 746.916.000 dollars, 16,13% more compared to the same period in 2021, the federal agency reported.

He indicated that in the first half of the year, 272.172 tons of strawberries were exported, equivalent to 748.843.000 dollars, 3,84% more compared to January-June 2021, while those of blackberries were for 56.899 tons, with a value of exports of 481.349.000 dollars that refer to an annual increase of 39,09%.

Recently Agriculture, through the National Service for Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality (Senasica), began negotiations to export blueberry, raspberry and blackberry seedlings to Morocco and files were sent to the United States for the export of in vitro raspberry and blackberry plants. , as well as blueberry plants and seedlings.

The federal agency highlighted the contribution of the berries subsector to the Mexican economy, which generates more than 500 direct jobs in 22 entities in the country.

In the area of ​​production, he said, Mexico had the second best performance of these strawberries worldwide, only behind China.
