The international blueberry industry met in Tangier
An excellent turnout, with sold-out tickets and a full house in the halls Hotel Royal Tulip City Center Tangier, was held this Wednesday XXXIII International Seminar on blueberries and red fruits in the city of Tangier, Morocco.
Highlighting the excellent organization and the relevance of the topics addressed in the presentations, attendees left enthusiastic about the high level of business offered by the blueberry and berry industry globally, as well as being surprised by the speed of growth of the Moroccan industry, which in the short term may have a greater presence in the global market.
The meeting was attended by high-ranking authorities and had simultaneous translation into Spanish, French, Arabic and English, in addition to the presence of renowned national and international industry specialists, some of whom will also participate in a technical tour to learn about the reality of Moroccan farms, the behavior of genetics, cultivation systems, quality and training of human resources, and to learn about the specific management of local producers in order to face their challenges.
Technologies and genetics
In the field of technology and its proper use, the presentations were made by “Design of irrigation programs to optimize resources, photosynthesis and biomass development in red fruits”, which was presented by the executive for Spain and Latam of Gremon Systems, Miguel Ángel Cuevas, and “The impact of technology on the blueberry process: innovation, quality and efficiency”, by a representative of the Italian company Unitec.
Genetic developments were discussed in detail in the talk “Breeding programs for new cultivars of red fruits in warm growing areas”, by renowned international specialist and geneticist Bruno Mezzetti, academic at the Polytechnic University of the Marche (UNIVPM).
Conversation panel
One of the highlights of the programme was the panel discussion moderated by the president of AMPFR, Amine Bennani, where a discussion was made “Analysis of the global soft fruit industry: challenges and competitiveness strategies”, The event was attended by specialists Amouri Mohamed, President of the Moroccan Federation of Red Fruits Interproberries; Youssef Bensajjy, Head of the Agricultural Development Department of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region; Kamal Ouhmad, Manager of Driscoll's in Morocco; Harold Huot, CEO of Surberry; Philip Symons, EMEA Director of North Bay Produc, and Tadeu Alves, CEO of Green Factor, from Portugal.
