The Coquimbo region increases the export of blueberries by 32%

With a visit to the SAG-USDA Inspection Site, authorities reported on the exports of blueberries from the Coquimbo Region, highlighting that this season 2019-2020 the export of the fruit increased by 32% compared to the last season 2018-2019 , reaching 2.559 tons.

An important part of the exported blueberries leaves through the SAG –USDA Inspection Site, which allows direct export from the Coquimbo Region to the United States with an organic production. In this way, between August, September and October, 66.287 boxes have been exported to that market.

The Seremi of Agriculture, Rodrigo Órdenes, commented that “what is being generated as a region related to diversifying the productive matrix is ​​very important, we have grapes and citrus fruits, but now, in addition, we are exporting blueberries which allows us to differentiate our production and the dates on which we can harvest and produce in our region ”.

Regarding the objective that led the authorities to visit the SAG-USDA Site, the SAG Regional Director, Jorge Navarro explained that “one of the main objectives was to verify on the ground the blueberry season that is beginning and that we are at this Site producing and working exceptionally in the month of October and, probably, also in the month of November to meet the requirements of the producers in relation to the production of blueberries ”.

In the Coquimbo Region, the exportable area of ​​blueberries is 371,87 hectares, of which 28% (104,28 ha) correspond to the province of Choapa, 54% with 201,43 hectares to Limarí and 18% to Elqui with 66,16 hectares.
