The EU and the US agree to adjust agricultural trade quotas after Brexit

The European Commission (EC) specified in a statement that the pact represents "the culmination of two years of negotiations in the framework of the WTO to divide these EU quotas ”.
Thus, part of the quota volume will remain in the community club and another part will go to the United Kingdom, based on “recent trade flows”.
Brussels indicated that the agreement covers “Dozens of fees and billions of euros in trade, including beef, poultry, rice, dairy products, fruits and vegetables and wines ”.
“I am delighted that we have reached an agreement with our most important business partner, the United States. This agreement, carried out within the framework of the WTO, preserves the original volumes, but distributes them between the EU and the United Kingdom ”, declared the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciejowski.

He added that the pact provides "certainty and stability" to the agricultural trade and markets of the Twenty-seven.
“I am particularly satisfied that this agreement highlights the importance of our commercial and economic relationship. This sends a a good sign of our commitment to work together both bilaterally and within the framework of the WTO. I want to thank my team and our American colleagues for a job well done, ”said the Polish politician.

The EU is conducting similar negotiations to adjust quotas with twenty-one other trading partners, and has completed negotiations with Argentina, Australia, Norway, Pakistan, Thailand or Indonesia.
Once the Commission has formally adopted the agreement reached with Washington, it will be sent to the Council, which brings together the member states, and to the European Parliament for ratification, so that it can enter into force “as soon as possible”.
