Chile has almost doubled its cherry exports to India in the 2024/25 season. With the recent arrival of several sea freight containers, export volumes have increased from 367 tonnes in 2023/24 to 708 tonnes in 2024/25 to date, according to Chile’s Cherry Committee of Frutas de Chile.

“This season showcases the extraordinary opportunity that these premium Chilean cherries have in the Indian market,” said Claudia Soler, Executive Director of Chilean Fruits Committee of Chile. “Through targeted promotional activities and engaging campaigns, we aim to showcase their versatility, not only as a delicious snack option, but also as a prized ingredient for festive recipes.”

To support this growth, Chilean representatives visited the wholesale markets of Delhi and Mumbai in January 2025 to witness the arrival and reception of Chilean cherries in the market.

Juan Angulo, Chilean Ambassador to India and Jorge Andrés Loyola Castro, ProChile Trade Commissioner, visited the Azadpur Wholesale Fruit Market in Delhi and Gustavo González Bulo, Chilean Consul General in Mumbai and Misri Kamlesh Goradia, ProChile Representative in Mumbai visited the wholesale markets in Mumbai welcoming arrivals and showing support to Indian importers, wholesalers and retailers.

“The growing popularity of Chilean cherries in India underlines the strong trade relations between our two countries,” Angulo said. “It is also surprising to see the high quality of Chilean cherries in India, even after traveling for more than 40 days in sea containers.”

According to Frutas de Chile, the cherries showed impressive arrival quality thanks to the systems and processes that Chilean cherry transporters and packers have adopted to serve the distant Indian market.

“Our cherries are known for their exceptional quality and freshness, and it is heartening to see Indian consumers embracing the vibrant flavours and health benefits of Chilean cherries, making them a key part of their festive and winter celebrations,” Castro said of the new arrivals.
