The technological solutions of Unitec

Increase of the turnover in 2016 (85 million euros, compared to the 72 of the previous year), presence in 60 countries around the world and an 90% of the businesses closed abroad. These are just some of the figures presented by the president of Unitec, Angelo Benedett, at Fruit Logistica, Berlin.

“Without a doubt, we can call ourselves a 'group', as we have expanded our range of action and our innovative solutions with UT Instruments, a company founded in 2016 by Unitec, Tr Turoni and Unisorting, thanks to the acquisition of Longobardi, Sado and Sammo”.

UT Instruments manufactures portable technological devices to measure the quality of the fruit throughout the chain.

Unisorting produces specialized technologies for the processing of apples, dates, onions, potatoes, mangoes, avocados, citrus and asparagus. It improves the classification, thus making the Unitec range even more complete.

For more than ninety years, Unitec has been lending support to packaging centers around the world, providing technologically advanced solutions to improve their business, reduce costs and increase revenue.

“Our goal for 2017 is the same. Our systems allow the elimination of defective product from the packaging lines and the quality classification based on various parameters. It is not true, for example, that fruit with a lower Brix level is not suitable for certain purposes. What is important is knowing how to distinguish it and making decisions based on objective data”.

According to the president of Unitec, for a central of packaging the important thing is to be reliable. "Product consignments have an advantage if they are uniform, when they are not at risk because they contain products that could be destined for the processing industry".

Enrico Turoni, from TR Turoni, spoke about the advantages of using electronic tools to verify the quality parameters of the fruit before harvesting. “Thanks to the fact that they are portable, their fast and specialized software, and Bluetooth technology, these devices allow producers to obtain the best results, optimizing time and resources and offering customers (distribution and markets) the required product. The goal is, as always, to keep customers”.

The excellent technological solutions of Unitec

At Fruit Logistica, Unitec presented three solutions for sorting and packaging fruit and vegetables: Cherry Vision 2, Blueberry Vision and Cluster Cutter for Rainier cherries.

Cherry Vision 2
It is the innovative system developed and manufactured entirely by Unitec for the electronic classification of cherries.

Last season, Cherry Vision 2 contributed to the success of Melinda cherries. With the use of Cherry Vision 2 in the classification, the company was able to increase its profits, thanks to a better quality, as well as get out of a season characterized by meteorological and insect problems (Drosophila suzukii). They saved 0,60 euros in labor costs and more than 0,30 euros per kilo in the price paid to the producers.

Blueberry Vision
It is the pioneer technology for the selection and classification of blueberries.

It is also the first system that analyzes the different parameters of the whole surface of the blueberries without damaging them. Significantly improves the reliability of the classification before the fruit reaches the market. The processing speed is 30 blueberries per second.

Cluster Cutter
A perfect example of innovation designed for a single fruit, as it was developed to process Rainier cherries. The innovative stem cutter is patented and manages to separate the fruit from the stem without damaging it. It is a true "revolution" in terms of cost reduction and improved efficiency thanks to the highly automated lines. It should not be forgotten that, previously, the stem was removed by hand.
