Peruvian blueberries arrive for the first time in Israel and Jordan

The first shipment of fresh Peruvian blueberries to Israel has been registered. In week 38 of the current 2022-23 campaign, 3.600 kilos were shipped by air to the Israeli market. These are the first exports to Israel as a new destination since its market opened for Peru at the end of June 2022.

This is the second new destination for Peruvian blueberries in recent weeks. In week 34 of the current 2022-23 campaign, Peruvian blueberries also arrived in Jordan, with 360 kilos shipped by air. This information was provided by the Association of Blueberry Producers of Peru (ProArándanos), which reports that the country already has a presence in 62 international markets and has established itself as the world's largest producer and exporter of blueberries.

The first exports from Peru to Israel occurred during the weeks where the highest export levels were expected, which were reached in week 38 last season. ProArándanos estimates that the country will exceed the 250.000 tons of blueberries shipped last year in this season. 2022-2023 season.

Luis Miguel Vegas, manager of ProArándanos, stated that, if the current good volumes continue, their exports could grow more than 25% compared to the previous year. According to estimates, 90% of shipments could be made between August and December, and 50% between September and October.

"In week 36, organic blueberry exports have reached 2.026 tons, which is a record figure in terms of weekly volume to date. In total, 10.402 tons have been exported this season, 144% more than in the previous one. Among the main destinations are the United States, with 96,16%; Europe, with 3,06%, the United Kingdom, with 0,45% and, finally, other destinations with 0,32%”, says Miguel.

“The blueberry industry is an engine for development, poverty reduction and social inclusion. In this campaign it is estimated that up to 135.000 direct jobs will be generated. An interesting fact is also that 58% are women. The blueberry industry pursues the protection of its communities to continue growing together," said Miguel on behalf of ProArándanos.
