Morocco successfully concludes the 38th International Seminar on Red Fruits and plans its future with innovation and cooperation.
With a highly positive balance, the event culminated in the city of Tangier. The event, considered one of the benchmark events for the Mediterranean berry industry, provided a space for technical and commercial exchange that addressed the main challenges facing the sector in Morocco and globally: climate change, water management, international competitiveness, technological innovation, and the opening of new markets.

On the final day, attendees praised the quality of the data and the accuracy of the figures presented by the experts, which allowed for a clear definition of the best strategies for producers and exporters.
The program was attended by more than 20 researchers and experts from Morocco, Spain, Peru, the Netherlands, China, and Chile, who addressed both technical and commercial aspects of red fruit crops.

"Diagnosis of the blueberry market in Morocco: challenges and opportunities", given by Jorge Esquivel, director of Blueberries Consulting and international advisor, who cleared up doubts about the local and global scenario and identified opportunities to advance in the global context.
"Strategies for pest control in red fruits: Scirtothrips dorsalis and Drosophila suzukii", presented by Douglas Rodriguez, director of PLANASA, who presented innovations in integrated management and biocontrol against pests of increasing impact.
"Use of growth regulators to reduce heat stress in blueberries and berries", taught by Daniel Díaz, Mexican researcher of the Michigan State University, who didactically explained the advantages of physiological regulations in the context of climate change.
Opportunities and challenges
The seminar reaffirmed that the Moroccan red fruit industry is in a expansion stage with a promising outlook for 2030 and 2050. Among the identified priorities are efficient water management, the training and retention of agricultural labor, a commitment to quality and technological innovation, and the opening of new markets outside of Europe.
