Morocco consolidates its success in the Singapore and Malaysian blueberry markets
As previously reported by EastFruit, Morocco is successfully expanding its blueberry exports to Southeast Asian countries. In the 2023/24 campaign, Morocco supplied 610 tonnes of fresh blueberries to the markets of Singapore and Malaysia, matching the success of the previous season. In addition, Morocco has made a good start to the 2024/25 campaign, already delivering 55 tonnes of products to these markets in December. Monitoring of Singapore supermarket shelves in February 2025 further confirms the continued growth of Moroccan blueberries in these markets.

It is worth noting that Moroccan blueberry exports to Malaysia in the 2023/24 campaign were more successful than those of Singapore. By delivering 288 tons to Malaysia, Morocco improved its results by 50% compared to the 2022/23 campaign. Meanwhile, blueberry exports to Singapore decreased by 13%, totaling 322 tons.
In recent years, Singapore and Malaysia have been actively increasing their blueberry imports, providing additional opportunities for exporters, including Morocco. In the 2023/24 marketing year, imports to Singapore grew by 16% and to Malaysia by 73%. As a result, Morocco became Malaysia's third-largest blueberry supplier and Singapore's fourth-largest, behind China, South Africa and Peru.

The export period for Moroccan blueberries to Singapore and Malaysia lasts from December to June, with the peak occurring from March to May. During this time, Spain, the Netherlands, Peru and China also supply blueberries, creating competition for Moroccan blueberries. While exports from the first two countries are lower than those from Morocco, China is currently the main competitor. Moreover, in the 2023/24 campaign, China significantly increased its supplies of blueberries to both Singapore and Malaysia.
Given the increased competition, Moroccan blueberry exports in the 2023/24 campaign can be considered successful. However, to improve or maintain this result in the current season, exporters will need to focus even more on improving the quality of the berries.
It is worth noting that in April this year, a trade mission of exporters of fresh berries, citrus fruits, avocados and other vegetables and fruits from Morocco will be held to Singapore and Malaysia.
