Morocco flourishes: Record agricultural exports drive economic growth
After two years of drought, the Moroccan economy is making a strong comeback, driven by a revitalized agricultural sector and record exports. Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) It projects a growth of 3,8% for 2025 and 2026, thanks to the reactivation of agricultural production, especially in fruits and vegetables.
The citrus sector is also showing signs of recovery. Mandarin exports reached 436.000 tons in the 2024-2025 season, up 13% from the previous season. Moroccan raspberries, meanwhile, continue to gain ground in Middle Eastern markets, consolidating the country's position in this high-value-added segment.
This boom in agricultural exports coincides with the OECD's optimistic forecasts, confirming Morocco's role as a key supplier of fruits and vegetables worldwide. While the European Union and the Middle East remain its main markets, Moroccan exports are diversifying into new destinations.
The combination of favorable climatic conditions, agronomic expertise, and modernization of the agricultural sector has positioned Morocco as a strategic platform for international fruit trade. By meeting the growing global demand for fresh produce, the country contributes significantly to global food security.
This resurgence of the agricultural sector comes at a time of reforms in the Moroccan public sector. The Ministry of Economy and Finance and the National Agricultural Development Agency (ANGSPE) recently presented the new OECD guidelines on the governance of public enterprises, including a Governance Charter and a code of good practices, marking an important step in the modernization of the sector.
