Morocco ranks 28th in the world among the main producing countries of basic fruits

This report comes from data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). But beyond that, the Kingdom continues its reforms in the sector.

In 2019, China was the main producer of these agricultural products with more than 249,614,183 tons. Then come India, Brazil, the United States, Turkey, Mexico, Indonesia, Spain, Iran, Italy, the Philippines, Egypt, Colombia, Nigeria, Thailand, Vietnam, France, Ecuador, Argentina, and Pakistan for the top 20 primary fruit producing countries.

The FAO understands by primary fruits, bananas, oranges, mandarins, lemons, mangoes, avocados, pineapples, dates, cherries, apples, pears and many others. The fruit and vegetable sector of the Moroccan market covers about 260.000 ha and produces about seven million tons annually.

The Moroccan government adopted in 2008 a strategy to stimulate and strengthen the agricultural sector. The kingdom is also based on promoting the integration of agriculture into international markets and intends to help agriculture achieve sustainable growth. Furthermore, the kingdom gives priority to strengthening the position of small farmers by properly promoting the growth of crop yields and encouraging a shift towards crops more adapted to environmental conditions and market demand.
