Morocco and the World Bank will seal an agreement as part of the Generation Green strategy

As previously announced, the World Bank will support Morocco in its new “Green Generation 2020-2030” agricultural strategy. In fact, the Bank will grant the Kingdom a loan of more than 200 million dollars.

Morocco's ambitious agricultural strategy attracts and inspires confidence. After the partnership between Crédit Agricole and the EIB, the government and the World Bank must seal a far-reaching agreement.

This association is related to a «Results-based program to support the green generation strategy»: Green Generation 2020-2030. According to Le Matin, this loan must be validated by the Board of Directors of the Breton Woods institution.

Faced with the Covid-19 pandemic, the program is designed to contribute to the accelerated implementation of the Generation Green strategy, promote the digital transformation of the agricultural sector, and respond to the current crisis and similar shocks.

The proposed program thus comprises three axes that are mutually reinforcing. The first is to increase employment and income generation opportunities for rural youth. This component is aimed at rural youth between the ages of 15 and 34, regardless of their status in the labor market.

Second, the loan will be used to improve the efficiency of agri-food marketing systems. And for this, the program foresees a new institutional and regulatory framework for the organization of the national network of wholesale markets and wholesale trade of agricultural products.

Third, the partnership between Morocco and the World Bank aims to accelerate the digitization of agriculture. The goal is therefore to globally accelerate the digitization of agriculture and the adoption of climate-friendly practices, in particular with good water and irrigation management.
