Chile: More than $ 1.000 million in irrigation projects will be executed in the Maule

A public private investment amounting to $ 1.186 million will be materialized in the Maule region through the execution of 29 projects, financed by Law 18.450 for the Promotion of irrigation and drainage.

These are the results of 3 of the 40 contests of the 2020 call calendar, administered by the National Irrigation Commission (CNR), where farmers in the region were awarded these 29 initiatives that represent a state bonus of $ 793 million.

The works will be carried out in 15 communes in the region and will benefit a total of 219 hectares with better systems for the use of irrigation water. The contests were intended to support energy efficiency and modernization initiatives; drainage works; and small agriculture projects with pre-review and not selected in previous competitions.

This was explained by the Seremi de Agricultura del Maule, Luis Verdejo, who invited the irrigators to continue applying to the contests of the Promotion Law: “We congratulate the irrigators who were awarded projects in these three competitions of the 2020 calendar that had 40 calls and we want to invite farmers from all segments, large, medium and small agriculture, to apply for the irrigation law competitions. Get closer to your irrigation organizations and irrigation consultants, to review the dates of the new 2021 calendar, which is already available on the National Irrigation Commission page ”.

The Seremi highlighted the importance that irrigation has had for the current government and within the management of the Ministry of Agriculture: “One of the most important legacies of the government of President Piñera is the promotion of investment in irrigation and drainage to be more efficient in the use of water and thus adapt to climate change. In the Maule region we have always been leaders in attracting resources from the law and what we want is to continue on that path. That is why we invite you to get informed, to organize and to invest in irrigation, which is to invest in the future of Maulina agriculture ”, noted the regional authority.
