Maule Sur began the season of phytosanitary inspections for the export of blueberries
During the month of September, the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) initiated the Inspection Program for the Certification of Export of Blueberries 2016 - 2017 season. The first activity was carried out in a packing house located in the commune of San Javier, in fruit produced under greenhouse from Cauquenes, which was destined for Japan.
It should be noted that the SAG has an inspection program, which takes place annually in the different fruit export and packing plants of the Maule region; there Service officials review the fruit and provide the necessary guarantees so that the export is carried out according to the protocols established by the markets of destination.
In this sense, the regional director of the SAG, Cristian Lara, said that "The Maule region has a large area of blueberries, so the work done there by the SAG is relevant; the inspection according to what the different markets of destination establish must be fulfilled in order that our fruit enter without problems".
For his part, the Head of the SAG de Linares office, Miguel Ángel Troncoso, indicated that "This activity is circumscribed to the Certification Program of Exports in Origin, which traditionally for this fruit begins in November and ends in March of the following year. This shows that the advance of the season, in almost a month, will mean an increase in the workload of the SAG inspectors".
It should be noted that during the 2015 - 2016 season, the Maule region exported a total of 7,3 million boxes of blueberries, which were destined for such important markets as the USA, China, Japan, Korea and the European Union.
