Mexico: “We are increasing our ecological offer of 'berries'”

The Mexican season of "Berries" It will start in September, and it arrives with a very good volume. The Berries Paradise Group grows raspberries, blueberries and blackberries, both conventional and organic production. "It is the second season that we grow organic blackberries and blueberries and the third that we grow organic raspberries. More and more markets are looking for an ecological offer, which motivates us to satisfy this need for organic products, especially the United States and the European Union. ", explains Héctor Silva, of Berries Paradise.

berries1More quality and volume

The exporter expects excellent quality for all three products this season. "We work with our own producers and we discuss all the internal variants in teams in order to make the best decisions every season. This season, we are working to avoid any situation that could harm the quality of the products ", continues Silva. Regarding the weather effects of El Niño, says that Berries Paradise has got new suppliers for example more resistant covers to protect the wind fields, so they feel more secure. “In addition, we look for the best natural elements to better take advantage of the productivity of our plants”.

The most important product for Berries Paradise are raspberries, followed closely by blueberries, whose production is increasing to meet the demand of their customers around the world. "We export the three products to all our markets, but in different proportions depending on the country."

The blueberry season is also starting in many other countries in South America, and the merchant recognizes that Mexico can not compete in volume at this stage of the season, although it does in quality. In addition, Mexico has access to markets that other producing countries do not have, an opportunity that allows Berries Paradise to do good business, strengthen its relationship with its customers and maintain its market banner. "Some countries in South America are now in production. Although as I mentioned, we compete with volume, if we are able to supply specific commitments made in advance "He says.

berries3Internal market

The producer adds that, when there is a lot of demand, it also supplies the Mexican market, where the consumption of blueberries is increasing. "It is still a new product for this country"says Silva, but stresses that the main objective of his company is export. “We see Mexico as an important market also to position Berries Paradise. We want Mexicans to know that we are a Mexican company that is reaching international markets ".

The prices of berries depend to a large extent on supply and demand, according to Silva.

berries4Asia Fruit Logistica

Berries Paradise will attend the next Asia Fruit Logistica trade fair, as well as other events such as PMA in October and Worldfood Moscow. According to the exporter, the main objective of the company in these fairs is to contact their current customers, visit them and strengthen their relationships with them, but also develop new business in some specific countries.

Mexico still does not have permission to export directly to all Asian countries. "We are trying to present our products to countries like South Korea, Thailand or Malaysia, but we do not have the phytosanitary protocols to export from Mexico. It will take time, maybe a couple of years more. We have the contacts; we have some potential customers, but unfortunately, we still can not do it ", concludes.
