Mexico: Berries, example of profitability

The production of strawberries known as berries is an example of success in the introduction of high-yield crops and shows a rigorous discipline in terms of safety, said the head of the Ministry of Rural Development of Jalisco (Seder), Hector Padilla Gutierrez .
In the framework of the inauguration of the V International Congress of the National Association of Exporters of Berries (ANEBERRIES), the state official stressed that the boom that crosses the production of this type of crops presents the great challenge of maintaining and reinforcing the order that the has characterized since its birth. As well as maximizing the care in terms of safety to avoid cases such as the cilantro of Puebla, whose producers now have closed the border with the United States.
Padilla Gutiérrez considered that the recent opening of China's market for Mexican berries brings good omens so that exports to Russia can be made in the short term, which means covering another important business segment.
»As part of the commercial dynamism and the increase of Jalisco's agricultural exports, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and blueberries provide a special contribution, since their cultivation has mainly benefited small producers with technological innovation and articulation with markets, as has been the case observed in this Entity and in neighboring states», assured the secretary.
For his part, the president of ANEBERRIES, Mario Alejandro Cárdenas Andrade, said that at the present time there is a reconfiguration of Russia's commercial relations with the foreign market, which represents an opportunity to manage a direct penetration of Mexican berries towards a extensive niche population.
The executive stressed that there are grounds to expect an exponential growth of exports of these strawberries, which today have more demand from Europe and Asia.
