Miguel Aburto, representative of OXBO:

“The more the benefits of blueberries are promoted among young people, the greater the demand there will be.”

"Peru is doing very good work, and the ongoing renewal of varieties gives us hope that we will continue to have the product available, which is traveling around the world."

The marketing of blueberries has grown exponentially in recent years, leading to giant strides in production processes. Thus, all stakeholders in the blueberry industry are seeking to specialize in areas such as the 2025 Peru Blueberry Technical Tour, held in the fields of Family Farms Peru, in the dunes of Pisco, and the XXXIV International Blueberry Seminar by Blueberries Consulting and held at the Lima Convention Center last March.

Miguel Aburto (Chile) of the company OXBO He tells us about his expectations for both events and his vision of the blueberry markets.

Which company does it belong to?
I work for OXBO, a company dedicated to the manufacture of harvesting machinery, including berries. We are present in Peru and Chile, representing the company as Clearwater Peru and Clearwater Chile. We have been working in the industry for about 15 years. We are seeing opportunities in terms of food safety and fruit health for consumers, and we are working in the United States with the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) and the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to ensure that the components used to build the equipment meet the required standards to avoid any type of contamination and safeguard the condition of the fruit once harvested.

What are your expectations for your participation in the international seminar and technical tour?
I decided to participate because Blueberries Consulting has years of experience in blueberry cultivation and the network to bring together highly experienced professionals, and on this occasion, with a company that is a leader in agricultural production, blueberry production in southern Peru.

And what is your opinion of the work done in Pisco?
I think that the irrigation project that Peru implemented as a country for different areas of the Peruvian coast and for developing this type of cultivation deserves my respect above all. I congratulate them as a country because they have taken blueberry cultivation to another level of production and, above all, they are meeting the needs of consumers in different parts of the world. In that sense, Peru is doing very good work, and the renewal of varieties that is being done gives us hope that we will continue to have the supply of the product that is traveling the world.

Do you think the blueberry market will continue to grow?

As a global producer, we can't keep up with all the potential consumers, and the more we promote consumption among young people, the greater the demand for this product, which offers significant advantages in terms of what we all need: health.

We look forward to seeing you at the next events of Blueberries Consulting:
