The holder of the portfolio made a balance of the current situation of the supply by the coronavirus and explained the operation of the special safeguards for the rural world in case of stricter quarantines. Currently the fields with all their productions, packing, processes, transports and ports continue to function.

The Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Walker, met with representatives of the Association of Rural Municipalities (AMUR) to analyze the measures implemented regarding the operation of free fairs and supplies in their territories. In addition, the holder of the portfolio explained the operation of the safe conducts and the operation measures for the Chilean fields.

“In our safe sourcing committee, we want all the products of the field to continue being on the table of all Chileans for three times a day. From the field to the table is the fundamental objective of this committee. Therefore, the first thing we have done has been to declare agriculture as a critical infrastructure activity, that is, agriculture cannot stop. The field cannot stop because the large amount of food that we have in Chile is produced by our agriculture ”, affirmed the Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Walker.

The measure is within the framework of a series of decisions that the Government has taken to face the health emergency, where critical sectors have been identified that cannot be stopped, one of them is the agricultural sector, which is an essential sector to maintain the food chain. . Therefore, in the case of having stricter quarantines in the future, there will be a special safe-conduct (permits) for all workers in the sector.

“For this chain, the safe conduit instructions consider that vehicles with dispatch guides can circulate in addition to the driver's identity card, which function as safe conduit. There is also the option of collective safe-conduct that companies can request via the internet at comisariavirtual.cl which is open for those companies and enterprises in the agri-food sector that have tasks in critical functions such as harvests, harvests, food production and also for food supply. livestock, fish farming, etc ”, pointed out the Undersecretary of Agriculture, José Ignacio Pinochet.

Minister Antonio Walker paid a tribute to the country man and stressed that all his productions, packing, processes, transportation and ports continue to function normally.

“Chile cannot lack food and we are very concerned about that. We also do not want speculation or food hoarding and with the work we have done recently in the Ministry of Agriculture we can assure it. The other day a woman bought four bags of potatoes at Vega and I asked her why four bags, if she needs four kilos? And it was for fear of supply. We have made a count and we are very well prepared to supply Chileans, ”said Minister Antonio Walker.

Finally, the authorities asked the country's mayors to take the necessary measures to allow free fairs to function properly and Minister Antonio Walker reiterated his determination to extend the loan payments announced last Thursday for three months. This measure will have an immediate effect and will be carried out automatically for all farmers who use INdap in the country and its extension will be evaluated over time.

Hygienic measures for the Chilean fields:

“The first thing is to take care of and protect all the people who live in the rural world, more than six million inhabit the rural world. More than a million people work in the production of food directly and another million work in the distribution of our food. For this reason, we have produced a manual of good hygienic practices that is aimed at protecting all agricultural workers.
