New Chancay – Shanghai route completes its first itinerary with the arrival of the “Xin Shanghai” to China
The “Xin Shanghai”, operated by COSCO Shipping, arrived at Yangshan Port in Shanghai after a 23-day journey from the Peruvian port of Chancay. This event marks the inauguration of the operational maritime service between Shanghai and Chancay, a key project within the Belt and Road cooperation between China and Peru.
The cargo transported on this first sailing includes Peruvian products such as blueberries, avocados and minerals, highlighting the importance of the new port to strengthen trade between both nations. According to Wu Jianzhong, regional manager of Joy Wing Mau Fruit Technologies Corporation Limited, owner of the cargo of blueberries transported on board, 50% of these fruits will be distributed in Shanghai, while the rest will be sent to markets in northern China.
Reduction of times and expansion of routes
Prior to the opening of the Chancay port in November, trade between Peru and China was primarily handled through the port of Callao. The new facility introduced additional maritime transport services, reducing sailing time to 23 days, significantly faster than the market average.
This new route is expected to facilitate the entry of fresh fruit and other Peruvian products into the markets of China and the Asia-Pacific region, strengthening trade relations between Latin America and Asia.
