New packaging developed for blueberries

When innovation and sustainability come together, interesting proposals emerge on the market. Like Nature Punnet: the new packaging developed by SanLucar, the premium quality fruit and vegetable brand. This is an important step in the company's quest for new environmentally friendly packaging solutions. The goal: Reduce the use of plastic in packaging and opt for more sustainable alternative materials, ensuring optimal product preservation in terms of quality and freshness.

As a result, Nature Punnet consists of 94% paper, which is FSC certified and comes from sustainable sources. In addition, it is particularly resistant to humidity. This characteristic is crucial for products such as berries, which are available in the refrigerated areas of supermarkets.

The 125 gram container has a perforated film that allows perfect ventilation of the fruit. This film can be recycled without problems as it can be easily separated from paper. Therefore, the new concept not only extends the shelf life of sensitive fruits, such as raspberries or blueberries, but also helps to reduce food waste.

In addition, by using paper, the berry basket can be decorated with the distinctive premium brand design, which characterizes SanLucar at the point of sale. “It has been a challenge to work with a product as complex as berries and to find the right formula to offer, both to our clients and to the end consumer, a packaging committed to nature, but also to the high quality expected from a brand like ours ”, says María Plasencia, Head of Packaging at SanLucar. “The test phase, which we have carried out in the German and Austrian markets, will end in a few days. However, the results already show that Nature Punnet is a milestone in fresh fruit packaging ”, adds Plasencia.
