Peru: Agro-exports end 2021 with good numbers

Peruvian agro-exports will reach 8,807 million dollars at the end of this year, an amount that will mean a growth rate of 17% compared to 2019, says the report on Peruvian agribusiness called Fresh Fruit Report 2021.
“At the end of 2021, it is estimated that agricultural exports will reach 8,807 million dollars, with a growth of 17% compared to the previous year. A growth rate greater than 15% had not been reached since 2014, when agricultural shipments grew 20% ”, he says.
Likewise, the document indicates that the agro-export sector is recovering during this year.
“The agro-export sector has had a rapid recovery, thanks to the fact that the companies in the sector adapted to the new normal and were able to meet the demand of their customers. Likewise, companies took advantage of the opportunities brought by the change in international markets ”, he explains.
It also points out that thanks to the good reception of Peruvian products in the international market, in 2021 Peru will rise two places in the ranking and will consolidate itself as the twenty-first supplier of food in the world, displacing Chile and Australia.
“Fruit exports are the ones that would boost this result. Counting only this group of products, Peru would go on to position itself as the tenth most important supplier, displacing Italy and Ecuador ”, he indicates.
Main products
The report states that grapes, blueberries and avocados led the ranking of agro-exports, with a joint participation of 43% in the export basket.
In turn, the three fruits managed to overcome the barrier of 1,000 million dollars so far this year. Last year, blueberries and grapes had already reached this goal and this year they were joined by avocados, a product that was very well received in international markets.
Likewise, the document indicates that Peru will lead world blueberry exports for the third consecutive year, with 30% participation, while Chile will remain in second place in the ranking with 13% participation.
In the case of grapes, Peru will establish itself as the second most important supplier in the world, with a 13% share; very close to China, the main supplier with 14%.
Finally, the report indicates that in the case of avocados, Peru will once again consolidate itself as the second largest supplier in the world, with a 16% share, after Mexico, with 42%.
The grape
Exports of grapes, fresh, frozen and processed, will reach 536,822 tons worth 1,321 million dollars in 2021, the report projects.
This amount will represent a growth of 20% in volume and 27% in value compared to the previous year.
Likewise, it estimates that 66% of Peruvian grape shipments are concentrated in three markets: the United States, the Netherlands and China (including Hong Kong).
The cranberry
Regarding blueberry exports in all their presentations, the report predicts that they will reach 223,794 tons for a value of 1,279 million dollars at the end of 2021.
This figure will represent a growth of 26% in volume and 25% in value compared to the previous year.
It also indicates that 92% of the fruit shipments are concentrated in three markets: the United States, the Netherlands and China.
Avocado
Avocado exports, in its three presentations, will reach 588,483 tons for 1,210 million dollars in 2021. This figure will represent a growth of 35% in volume and 44% in value compared to the previous year.
66% of Peruvian avocado shipments are concentrated in three markets: the Netherlands, the United States and Spain, the report points out.
About the report
The Fresh Report 2021, continues with the effort started five years ago to have an official catalog that allows knowing the country's agro-export offer, its main products and protagonists.
It is also a joint effort that unites the State, through the Ministry of Foreign Relations, Promperú and Senasa, with the private sector, through AGAP and Fresh Fruit Peru.
