Peru: Agro-exports totaled US $ 2.274 million in the first four months of the year, registering an increase of 16.5%

Fruit and vegetable exports reached US $ 1.446 million (66% of non-traditional agricultural exports) in this first four-month period.

During January-April of this year, Peruvian agro-exports reached US $ 2.274 million, representing an increase of 16.5% compared to what was obtained in 2020, reported the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).

He explained that in the first four months of 2021, traditional agricultural exports totaled US $ 70 million, a figure that represented an increase of 3.6%, compared to what was registered in the same period last year. Within this group of products, unroasted coffee exports (US $ 54 million) stand out, achieving an increase of 9.7%.

On the other hand, non-traditional agro-exports totaled US $ 2.204 million, a figure 17% higher than that observed in the same period of 2020. The main products were: fresh grapes US $ 473 million (21% participation); fresh avocado US $ 264 million (12%); fresh mango US $ 222 million (10%); frozen mango US $ 91 million (4.1%); fresh asparagus US $ 69 million (3.1%); the other fruits US $ 65 million (2.9%) and blueberries US $ 56 million (2.5%); preparations used to feed the animals US $ 53 million (2.4%).

In the same way, the largest placements of fresh bananas for US $ 52 million (2.3%), the other cocoa beans US $ 33 million (1.5%), prepared asparagus US $ 32 million (1.4%), the other quinoas US $ 29 million (1.3%), ginger without crushing or pulverizing US $ 27 million (1.2%), the other paprikas US $ 25 million, among others.

The products that made the greatest contribution to growth during the January-April 2021 period compared to 2020 were: fresh avocado (+ 61%), fresh grapes (+ 17%), blueberries (+ 72%), other semolina flour food preparations , starch, starch or malt extract (+ 3.433%), fresh onions and shallots (+ 131%), fresh asparagus (+ 23%), fresh mango (+ 6,0%), other fruits (+ 23%) , the other cocoa beans (+ 39%), ginger (+ 44%), frozen strawberries (+ 159%) and tare powder (+ 98%).

It is important to highlight in the basket of non-traditional products, the exports of fruits and vegetables, whose sales reached US $ 1.446 million (66% of non-traditional agro-exports) in this first four-month period, a figure that represented an increase of 23% compared to similar period of 2020.

Likewise, the main destination countries for Peruvian agricultural exports were the United States, the Netherlands, Spain, Chile, Hong Kong, Ecuador, China, England, Mexico, and Germany. These ten countries concentrated 77% of the total FOB value exported in the first four months of the year.

In April 2021, Peruvian agro-exports grew by more than 50%, totaling US $ 526 million, compared to the US $ 350 million registered during the same month last year.

In that month, the higher placements of fresh avocados, fresh asparagus, other fruits, fresh mangoes, food preparations of semolina flour, starch, starch or malt extract, fine carded or combed alpaca or llama hair had an impact on growth figures. , preserved asparagus, blueberries, other cocoa, artichokes and frozen mango, among others.

Midagri detailed that in April 2021, traditional agricultural exports reached US $ 13 million, an amount that represented an increase of 23% compared to 2020. In this group, sales of unroasted coffee stood out (US $ 8.2 million), which registered an increase of 2.2%. Only this product accounted for 63% of traditional agricultural exports.

Meanwhile, non-traditional agricultural exports during April totaled US $ 513 million, a figure 51% higher than that observed in that month last year. The main products in the non-traditional agro-export ranking were: fresh avocados (28% share), other fresh fruits (5.3% share), fresh asparagus (4.1%) and frozen mangoes (3.8%).

They also highlighted the preparations used to feed the animals (3.3%), bananas including fresh "cavendish valery" type plantains (2.7%), fresh mangoes (2.7%), mandarins including tangerines and satsumas (2.3%), asparagus preparations (2.2%), other quinoas (1.7%), artichokes (1.5%) and cocoa beans (1.3%). These 12 products together account for 59% of the total number of non-traditional products exported.

Likewise, in April the non-traditional products that registered positive growth in their export value were: fresh avocados US $ 144 million (+ 62% growth), other fresh fruits US $ 27 million (+ 59%), fresh asparagus US $ 21 million (+ 164%) and fresh mangoes US $ 14 million (+ 70%).

In addition, other food preparations of semolina flour, starch, starch or malt extract are mentioned US $ 5.8 million (+ 4.072%), fine carded or combed alpaca or llama hair US $ 5.7 million (+ 601%), asparagus prepared US $ 11 million (+ 73%), blueberries US $ 4,2 million (+4 535%), among others.
