Peru seeks to expand its agricultural exports with China

According to Adex Peru, their trade relations between both nations continue to rise, and they see an opportunity after the global slowdown did not affect shipments to the Asian giant. Blueberries and avocados would be the products they seek to promote.
From Monday a delegation composed of the President of Peru, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, along with businessmen and trade leaders, among which is the president of ADEX Peru Juan Varilias, are in China, in order to strengthen relations trade between both countries and promote Peruvian investments.
One of the lines in these negotiations is related to the agricultural world, since ADEX maintains that among the 115 commercial opportunities not exploited by Peru is the agricultural-agro-industrial sector.
One of the examples pointed out by the union is the export of blueberries, since this product has been successful in other nations, but it has not yet managed to enter the Chinese market. Another would correspond to avocados, which although samples are already entering that country, this quantity is small. Added to this are citrus juices, canned tomatoes and nuts.
"Although in the last three years the slowdown in the world economy affected the Asian country, the level of our shipments was higher compared to the amounts prior to signing the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with that country", Juan Varilias said, explaining in this way why Peru maintains optimism by strengthening relations with China.
In addition to the above, the Asian country is the main commercial partner of this country in general. In the case of agro-exports, it represents 2,8%, with grapes being the star product for the Asian giant, with 71% corresponding to the total of this type of exports.
One of the issues that most worries the export union is related to the tariff preferences that China has granted to Peru, after only some sectors, such as timber and mining, were released. However, the same does not happen with agro-industry, since only 47% maintains these tariff policies, but they hope to improve this situation with the upcoming trade agreements with China.
