Peru: The blueberry will be the third export product in 2017

The blueberry will be the third export product of Peru next year, and will contribute to increase the exportable supply, projected the president of Sierra and Selva Exportadora, of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri), Alfonso Velásquez.

"In 2017, the Peruvian blueberry will be the country's third export product. Likewise, we hope that the blueberry of the jungle, the açaí, will have a presence in the international market”, he declared to the Andina Agency.

He pointed out that the success of the Peru Berries program in the Andean zone has made it possible to expand its production and export, so that its portfolio will seek to implement it in açaí.

“The jungle also has a berry that is the açaí, this fruit comes from the huasaí heart of palm and the company Conservera Amazónica de Iquitos has been exporting the heart of palm for a few years”, Dijo.

To promote the export of açaí, he indicated that his portfolio held a conversation with the aforementioned company to start a joint effort because they have 5 million seedlings of palm heart Huasaí available to investors and producer groups, with which they will promote a açaí productive revolution as it happened in Brazil.

Cosmetics

He also highlighted the importance of promoting the export of açaí because it is a fruit that has great potential for cosmetics, since the cosmetic oil of the fruit is used in beauty products, as it is the most powerful antioxidant in the world. nature and generates an economic movement of 530.000 million dollars annually.

On the other hand, the owner of Sierra and Selva Exportadora del Minagri, after highlighting the work of the Research Institute of the Peruvian Amazon (IIAP) with the camu camu, and varieties of coffee from the Amazonian territory, pointed out that there are more products from the jungle with great potential in international markets.

"We are going to work on all oriental fruits such as aguaje, as well as the development of terrestrial aquaculture where paiche, gaminata and paco are going to be the fastest growing varieties"He stressed.
