Peru will start selling its blueberries and citrus fruits to India since November
The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri) reported that this year the more than 1,300 million potential consumers in India would be acquiring Peruvian blueberries and citrus fruits, after a meeting was held in Lima between representatives of agricultural health from both countries.
The head of the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa), Jorge Barrenechea, confirmed that in November agro-exporters will have a new market for their products.
He pointed out that there are more products in mind to increase bilateral exchange, according to the advance of the access issues that are given gradually.
"They are interested in bringing Premium Basmati rice and mango to their country"Barrenechea said after meeting with officials from the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine and Storage (DPPQS) India.
Production centers
Representatives of the Indian agricultural health service visited blueberry and citrus production sites and packing plants in the La Libertad and Ica regions.
In both areas they supervised the phytosanitary conditions of the fields, the processes of postharvest, cold treatment of fruits and the Phytosanitary Certification System of fruits made and sustained by Senasa.
The technical visit is a consequence of the agreements of the bilateral meeting held in New Delhi - India, between specialists from Senasa and DPPQS, in February 2017 and as part of the proposal by the government to increase exports by 2021.
