Peru exports 788.000 dollars in blueberries to Canada in 5 months

Since its entry for the first time in September of the 2015, exports of fresh Peruvian blueberries to Canada reached 788.000 dollars in the last five months (to January of the 2016), reported the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur).

In this way, the country has positioned itself as the fourth supplier of this product to that market after Chile, the United States and Argentina.

As the entry of fresh Peruvian blueberries into the Canadian market is recalled, it was later established that the National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA), in coordination with the Commercial Office of Peru in Toronto (Ocex Toronto), completes the necessary procedures before the Canadian Food Inspection (CFIA, for its acronym in English).

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Magali Silva, welcomed these results and stressed that Canada is one of the largest consumers of this fruit in the world.

"Peru has the capacity to produce blueberries throughout the year and the positioning strategy that we promote in the sector is to make better use of our commercial window, that is, to export counterseasonally, so exports to the large market of Canada are concentrated in "the fourth quarter", He said.

It should be noted that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency currently allows the entry of blueberries during a trial period, in which the Canadian importer must request a prior purchase permit before shipping the product from Peru.

After this period fresh Peruvian blueberries will be able to enter Canada fulfilling the same requirements applied to the other exporting countries. This process of opening that includes the import of test would end in June of the 2016.

The CFIA also expects to withdraw the requirement for import permits in the 2017 and that the shipment inspection rate (currently 100%) will be reduced gradually based on the results of the trial period, since in The first five months have not registered any problems.
