Peru exports fruit to 93 international markets and sales total more than USD 4.800 billion in 2022

Peruvian fruit exports registered shipments to 93 international markets and sales reached USD 4.806 million during the year 2022, which allowed Peru to be positioned as one of the main food supplying countries in the world, according to the report Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).

The products with the greatest demand were fresh cranberries, fresh grapes, avocados, fresh mangoes, other citrus fruits, frozen mangoes, other fruits and other uncooked or cooked fruits, bananas including plantains, other fresh fruits, frozen strawberries, that were located as the main items in the export ranking.

The most important nations as destinations for Peruvian fruits were the United States, the Netherlands, China, England, Spain, Hong Kong, Canada, South Korea, Mexico, and Chile, which had a share of 89,7% of the total value exported. . The United States and the Netherlands account for 61,5% of fruit shipments.

In this sense, blueberries were the main export product, with sales of more than USD 1.364 million at the end of 2022, representing 13,4% more compared to that registered in 2021. Likewise, Peru ranks first in terms of value (2021) as the world's leading supplier of blueberries with a 25,3% share.

Blueberry exports achieved shipments to 32 markets, the most important destinations being the United States, the Netherlands, China, Hong Kong, England and Spain.

In turn, grapes also stood out, which are the second export product, adding to December 2022, a shipment amount of USD 1.363 million, with an increase of 13,7% compared to the period of the previous year. Likewise, Peru ranked first in terms of value (2021) as the main world supplier of grapes with a 12,8% share.

The largest placements of grapes registered shipments to 52 international markets, the main destination countries being the United States, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Mexico, China, England, Canada, Spain, South Korea and Taiwan.

For its part, avocados became the third export product, as of December 2022, the mobilized amount of avocados was USD 895 million, 17,4% less than in the same period of 2021. Likewise, Peru ranked as the third world supplier in terms of value (2021) of avocados with a 14,4% share behind Mexico and the Netherlands.

Avocado exports registered shipments to 39 international markets, the main destination countries being the Netherlands, the United States, Spain, Chile, England, China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Russia.

Likewise, fresh mangoes are the fourth export product, as of December 2022, the amount of fresh mangoes sold amounted to USD 301 million. Peru is located in terms of value (2021) as the fourth world supplier of mangoes with a share of 8% behind Thailand, Mexico and the Netherlands. Exports of fresh mangoes registered shipments to 39 markets, the largest destinations being the Netherlands, the United States, South Korea, Spain, England, Canada, France, Belgium, Russia and Chile.

Finally, the sales of bananas, including plantains, positioned itself as the eighth export product. As of December 2022, the exported amount of frozen mangoes was USD 117 million. Peru is located in terms of value (2021) in the seventeenth position of the world supplier of bananas with a participation of 1,1% behind Ecuador, the Philippines, Costa Rica, Colombia, Guatemala, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United States, Germany, Mexico, Vietnam, the Dominican Republic, the Ivory Coast, Cambodia, France, Panama, which reached 17 markets.
