Peru to export blueberries to Taiwan

The National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) and the phytosanitary authorities of Taiwan - BAPHIQ (Bureau of animal and Plant Health Inspection And Quarantine) signed the final agreements for the access of Peruvian blueberries to this new Asian market.

This important achievement for the sector will benefit producers from the regions of La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima, Ica, Piura and Ancash, who during the 2019-2020 export campaign managed to export 120,100.75 tons that were commercialized in countries of Europe, Asia and the United States. United.

According to the Association of Blueberry Producers of Peru (ProArandanos), a growth of 40% is projected for this campaign compared to the 2019/2020 season, figures that could reach 165,000 tons exported during this season. To date, some production sites have already started their certification processes for the export of this product to various international markets.

The Taiwanese market has a population of more than 23 million inhabitants, an indicator that will represent a greater demand for blueberries compared to the growth that this crop has had in various regions of the country. Agricultural products exported to Taiwan have been experiencing steady growth in recent years.

According to the market intelligence department of PromPerú, blueberries are a “promising” product, with export potential within each of the sectors of this market.

The presence of Senasa as an authority in agricultural health not only focuses on the opening of markets, but also in the field, from the quarantine treatment, periodic inspections, lifting of quarantine, certification of places of production, certification of processing plants, phytosanitary inspection and verification of the cold treatment, according to the market to which it is directed.
