Peru: Grupo Migiva and OzBlu announce agreement to produce new varieties of blueberries

The Migiva Group and OZBlu reported on the signing of a Joint Venture, in which both companies will originate OzBlu America, in order to introduce new varieties of blueberries in the market.

This agreement includes South, Central and North America, where OzBlue América will have the rights to produce, sell and commercialize the fruit from the varieties developed by Dave and Leasa Mazzardis under the OzBlu brand.

Also, this Joint Venture will implement a vertical business model, through which they will accelerate the market availability of some of the varieties that OzBlu already has.

On the other hand, it will seek to give a quick delivery to a new generation of blueberries that offer characteristics such as more firmness and crispness, together with a better flavor.

Roger Horak, CEO of United Exports and co-founder of OZblu, one of the largest producers of blueberries in South Africa and Australia, commented, "We firmly believe that, if the blueberry industry can raise the consumer experience with new varieties of this superfood , will generate an incredible and transformative increase in consumption for the entire blueberry industry and boost future growth. "

"We have worked hard to create and develop blueberries that are firm, sweet and crunchy, which is how they should really know," said Dave Mazzardis, OzBlu breeder.

Jonathan Geller of the Migiva Group stated that "the Group's innovative spirit and its focus on offering a superior consumer experience through specialized varieties and best agricultural practices, combined with the excellent consumer-oriented OZblu blueberry breeding program, offer a perfect combination".

"Given the superiority of the OzBlu breeding program, it made sense to find the right partner to develop the potential growth and supply of these exceptional blueberries. The new OZ America blueberries will 'break into' the world market as the preferred and consistent supplier of this superfood, "explains Jorge Pacheco, Commercial Director of United Exports for the Americas.

Migiva is a family group of diversified companies based in Peru. The Migiva Group's agricultural division includes more than 10.000 hectares of farmland and multiple processing plants in Peru and Uruguay.

In Peru, one of the most important agricultural subsidiaries of Migiva is Agrícola Andrea, producer of IFG grape varieties in the southern hemisphere.

Meanwhile, OzBlu is a producer of new varieties of blueberries different from the traditional ones through a unique and sustainable breeding program.
