Peru maintains regional leadership in non-traditional exports

Until last October, Peru registered the largest regional increase in non-traditional exports in the accumulated period of 12 months, which allowed it to maintain its leadership of the last five years, the Central Reserve Bank (BCRP) reported on Monday.

The interannual expansion rate as of October 2021 reached 25%, while in the last five years the Andean country led the growth of non-traditional exports in the region with an average annual rate of 8,2%.

The BCRP explained that the result as of last October was explained by higher shipments of agricultural products (mainly fruit), textiles, chemicals, fisheries and iron and steel.

In monthly terms, Peruvian non-traditional exports reached a historical maximum, since they amounted to 1.641 million dollars in October 2021, 35,3% and 15% higher compared to October 2019 and 2020, respectively.

Sales abroad of blueberries stood out, amounting to 356 million dollars, with a growth of 63,7% compared to October 2019 and 16,6% per year, as well as fresh grapes, with sales of 82 million dollars and an increase of 13,4% compared to the same month two years ago and 7,5% annually.

In accumulated terms, from January to October 2021, Peruvian non-traditional exports reached 13.053 million dollars, a figure 16,5% higher than the same period in 2019 and 30,2% compared to the 2020 period.

The products that were sold the most abroad were fresh avocados, with a growth of 39,4 and 40% compared to 2019 and 2020, respectively; blueberries, with an advance of 72,8% compared to the same period in 2019 and 31,3% last year, and fresh grapes, with an increase of 37,9 and 20,4% in relation to 2019 and 2020, respectively.
