Peru does not stop and now gets access to China with its blueberries

2016 has been a year full of events for Peru, which expands around the world with its fruits and vegetables. Now, after several years, it is finally the turn of the blueberries that made it to the Asian giant.

In a state visit to China, led by the President of the Republic Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, the Ministry of Agriculture of Peru achieved an important advance in China for the Asian country to allow the entry of Peruvian blueberries from November.

The signing of the Protocol would take place in November, coinciding with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) to be held this year in Peru.

To this end, a technical delegation from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) will arrive in the Peruvian territory to complete the Pest Risk Analysis in the exporting areas of this product. vegetable.

"We were waiting for the news of the blueberries, they have been working for a long time for that and it is great for the country", said Ricardo Polis, president of AGAP, during the Macfrut Fair that is currently being held in Rimini, Italy.

“I have been arriving from Asia Fruit Logistica and the truth is that this market is spectacular, what is coming not only for blueberries but also for citrus and avocados, it's great”, Polis said.

César Torrejón, deputy manager of improvements and processes at the Peruvian company Danper, also commented from the Macfrut fair in Italy that although his company has specialized in crops such as asparagus and artichokes, recently they have also begun to experiment with blueberries, where they currently have 20 hectares in production.

“For us, this market opening is very important because we are starting to cultivate blueberries and our intention is to sow 150 new hectares between this year and the next one and with this news we may accelerate this process. We want to take advantage of the new window and launch strong as we have done with other crops, such as with asparagus in China ”.

It is estimated that by next October AQSIQ together with the National Agrarian Health Service (Senasa) of Minagri, would have ready the phytosanitary protocol that Peruvian exporters will comply with to enter blueberries into a market made up of more than 1.400 million consumers.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the meeting also discussed access to pomegranate and quinoa grains.

During the last years, Peru has managed to enter China with its Hass avocado, grape, mango and asparagus.
