Peru is on track to exceed 300 tons in the 2024/2025 season

The global blueberry industry has ample room for further growth, according to projections of per capita consumption, so the margin for continued growth for the Peruvian industry - and for the entire blueberry industry - appears to be unlimited as long as the consumption trend continues.

The progress of the current Peruvian blueberry industry campaign is extending in length and developing in accordance with its projections, definitely surpassing the figures of the previous season. The numbers up to week 48 are decisive in observing a longer campaign than normal in previous harvests and with high volumes that indicate a total recovery of the Peruvian industry in its growth levels.

In total, as of week 48, 245.625 tons of blueberries have been sent to the different markets, which is 63% of what was the 2023/2024 campaign and an exact percentage in accordance with the projections from last October.

Of this total shipment, 217.301 tons correspond to conventional fruit, which means 61% over the 2023/2024 season and 1% more than recently projected. In organic fruit, 28.325 tons were shipped, which corresponds to 74% more than in the previous campaign and -5% below the projection.

Week 48

In week 48, 12.819 tons were shipped to international markets, which is 66% above what was the 2023/2024 campaign in this same week and -12% of what was the last projection for the date.

Companies

In terms of shipments, the volume is led by Camposol, with 30.225 tons, which means 12% of the total, followed by Agrovisión Perú SAC, with 24.047 tons, which corresponds to 10% of the total; Hortifrut Perú SAC, with 23.280 tons, (9%); Complejo Agroindustrial, with 20.257 tons (8%); Agrícola Cerro Prieto, with 11.928 tons (5%) and Agroberries Perú, with almost 10.000, which corresponds to 4%. The remaining 125 thousand tons, which corresponds to 51% of exports, have unregistered origins from various producers.

With the volumes placed by the Peruvian industry in the world markets, the discussion on prices will surely be reactivated, although the global blueberry industry is experiencing a virtuous movement. On the one hand, there are new consumers who are joining and old ones who are consolidating, and there are no signs of abandoning demand, because, on the other hand, the qualities of the fruit are constantly increasing, reaching the market each season with a better flavor, larger size, more firmness and new standards, which make it an increasingly pleasant experience for those who consume it.

The trend of consumption in the world remains on a permanent rise.

In this context, the global blueberry industry has ample room to continue growing in line with consumption projections. per capita, especially China, then Europe and the EMEA industry, especially Morocco and South Africa. The United Kingdom will continue to be a large market and the American region also has projections of increasing its high consumption rates, so the margin for the Peruvian industry to continue growing – and for the entire blueberry industry – appears to be unlimited as long as the consumption trend continues.

Meeting in Lima

A good opportunity to discuss this and other issues related to the successful Peruvian blueberry industry will be next  International Blueberry Seminar which will take place on March 12 and 13 at the Lima Convention Center, an annual meeting where Peruvian and foreign producers and exporters meet together with the main leaders of the industry, related international companies, and the most important specialists, to analyze, debate and increase knowledge about the crop and its industry.
