Peru: Growth is expected in exports of organic berries

During Fruit Logistica 2015 in Berlin the market potential for organic vegetables and fruits such as blueberries, raspberries and aguaymanto was highlighted.
After the participation of Sierra Exportadora, together with other government institutions, at the Fruit Logistica 2015 fair in Berlin (Germany), the president of this multi-sectorial body, Alfonso Velásquez Tuesta, highlighted that organic berries are the fruits that have the most expectations of growth in exports.
In this regard, he stressed that there is a great opportunity in the European market for blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. In the same way, for aguaymanto in fresh, frozen and dehydrated fruit.
"Peru has been the great attraction of the International Pavilion during the fair in Berlin. Now we have pending tasks, which is to promote the production of organic products and the audacity in phytosanitary agreements to increase our markets. In addition, promote research and adaptation of promising products and varieties", Indicated Velásquez Tuesta.
During the Fruit Logistica 2015, Sierra Exportadora presented the National Program Peru Berries, which promotes the associativity for the export of small producers of blueberries, aguaymanto, raspberry and strawberries from the mountains of the country. Now, this national program also seeks to boost the production of cherries.
Likewise, Velásquez Tuesta pointed out that Peru is increasingly positioning itself as an agro-exporting country, which grows by innovating and generating profitability for its farmers and its investors.
"There are new products such as bananas, pomegranates, figs and dates that also occupy a space in the varied portfolio of entrepreneurs who always seek to achieve niches and new profitable and timely businesses," he said.
