Peru and China strengthen trade ties and seek to promote investment, reported yesterday the Association of Exporters (Adex).

Peruvian exports to China between January and November 2022 they totaled 19,070 million 457,000 dollars, reflecting a slight decline of -0.7% compared to the same period in 2021, when they reached 19,211 million 968,000 dollars, mainly due to the lower demand for products from the traditional sector, he said.
"Despite the general drop, value-added shipments maintain good dynamism, especially due to agribusiness, partly thanks to the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that both countries have been in force since March 01, 2010," he said. .
In this context, the union's president, Julio Pérez, reaffirmed during a meeting with the ambassador of China in Peru, Song Yang, his support for both countries to complete negotiations for the optimization of said trade agreement, which over the years has generated benefits for Peruvian and Chinese exporters, and thus continue promoting investments.
"Peru and China They maintain an excellent bilateral relationship that has been strengthened over time. Non-traditional shipments tripled and that also translates into more decent employment for Peruvians. In this sense, we encourage the completion of the negotiations for the optimization of the FTA and we positively view China's request to be included in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP)”, he said.
Likewise, he expressed his interest in the participation of Peruvian companies in the various fairs commercial that will be face-to-face again in China since this year, and extended an invitation to the ambassador with the aim of spreading the Expoalimentaria 2023 Fair among Chinese companies in the same way.
For his part, Song Yang highlighted the relevant role of Peru for China, the main destination of Peruvian exports, not only commercially, but also due to the inversions of more than 200 companies chinese in the Peru, which are around 30,000 million dollars. "We hope to continue this trend and not only venture into mining or hydrocarbons, but into other areas such as manufacturing or services," he said.

In figures

In the aforementioned period of analysis, the non-traditional offer to this destination amounted to 636 million 226,000 dollars, increasing by 7.3%, indicated Adex.
The most important subsector was agribusiness, whose orders amounted to 332 dollars and grew 520,000%, thanks to the demand for blueberries, fresh grapes, avocados, powdered tara, among others, he said.
In second place, fishing for direct human consumption (CHD) was located with 198 million 266,000 dollars and a decline of 27.3%, he said. “Their most requested items were livers, roes and milk; prawns and frozen and canned squid, ”he specified.
It was followed by textiles with 27 million 155,000 dollars, wood with 23 million 048,000 dollars, chemicals with 18 million 588,000 dollars, clothing with 13 million 519,000 dollars, non-metallic mining with 10 million 862,000 dollars, metal mechanics with 10 million 147,000 dollars, various with 1 million 194,000 dollars and iron and steel company with 1 million 054,000 dollars, he reported.
Meanwhile, the primary sector concentrated 96.7% of the total, reaching 18,434 million dollars and a negative variation of 1%, he indicated.
Mining and traditional fishing presented decreases of 2.2% and 1.8%, respectively, while hydrocarbons was the most dynamic subsector, growing 654.9%, which together with traditional agriculture (24.6%) were the only positive items, he explained.
At another time, he said that imports from that country amounted to 14,541 million dollars between January and November of last year, showing a surplus balance for Peru of 4,528 million dollars.
