The Peruvian blueberry season continues below industry expectations

In total, by week 33, there are 15.384 tons of blueberries sent to the different markets, which means - 35% below what the 2023/2024 campaign was and - 4% according to the latest projections of the industry that was done in August.

According to the latest Proarándanos Report, the progress of the 2024/2025 campaign of the Peruvian blueberry industry looks slow and well below past figures. The numbers up to week 33 are decisive. It is expected that this distortion is due to a slowdown in the season, rather than a normal harvest campaign.

In total, by week 33, there are 15.384 tons of blueberries sent to the different markets, which means - 35% below what the 2023/2024 campaign was and - 4% according to the latest projections of the industry that was done in August.

Of these total shipments, 14.855 tons correspond to conventional fruit, which means 30% less than in the 2023/2024 season and -2% of what was recently projected. In organic, 529 tons were sent, which corresponds to – 79% less than in the previous campaign and – 32% below what was projected.

Companies

In week 33, 3.529 tons have been shipped, which means 25% less than the 2023/2024 campaign and – 15% less than the last projection in August. In shipments, Camposol leads the volume, with 2.273 tons, which means 15% of the total. Then follows Blueberry Perú Sociedad Anónima, with 1.272 tons, which represents 8% of the total. Then Hortifrut Perú and Agrícola Santa Azul, with 1.137 and 1.052 tons respectively, which meant 7% for each of the total, among others.

Destinations

6.597 tons of Peruvian blueberries have been sent to the United States, which gave them a market share of 43%, but -28% of what the 2023/2024 season was. 3.184 tons have been sent to China, which It means 21% participation and 42% less than last campaign. 2.643 tons have been sent to Europe, with a 17% share and a negative variation compared to the 2023/2004 season of – 47%. 739 tons have been sent to the United Kingdom, which corresponds to 5% activation and -63% of what it was last season. 2.222 tons have been sent to other new destinations, which means 14% of the total shipped and 13% above expectations.

Areas

La Libertad continues to lead the exports of the Peruvian industry, with 6.355 tons, which means 41% of the total participation, although - 50% of what was sent in the 2023/2024 campaign. It is followed by Lambayeque, with 3.416 tons, with a 22% participation and 28% over what was sent in the previous season. Then there is Ancash, with 2.392 tons, which means 16% of the total and – 5% of the last campaign. Ica, for its part, has sent 1.713 tons, representing 11% of the total and 10% less than what was sent in the 2023/2024 campaign. Lima, for its part, has sent 1.187 tons, which corresponds to 8% of participation is already 54% less than what it sent in the last campaign, a case very similar to that of Moquegua, which sent 162 tons, which corresponds to 1% of the total, but 55% less than what was sent in 2023/2024. Piura sent 85 tons, which corresponds to 1% and 91% of what it had previously sent. The case of Arequipa stands out, which has sent 55 tons, almost triple what was sent last season, and the surprising Apurimac, which debuts in the international blueberry market with 19 tons.
