Portugal: The price of blackberries stagnates, but there is a good market for currants and blueberries

Berry Brothers started selling blueberries from northern Portugal in mid-May. "The supply and quality were good, as well as the demand. We are seeing the growing area grow and, with it, so does the supply from Portugal", Says Nijs van Zuilen.

"We started with the Dutch blueberries in the first week of June, cultivating them under tunnel. Both demand and supply, quality and prices are good. I expect more pressure on the market at the end of next week for the supply coming from other countries".

Currants

"At the beginning of May we started with the Dutch redcurrants from our own greenhouse. The season started well and continues like this. The July 20 will begin to collect the Rovada variety. The Rolan and the Junifer will be over by then. Most of the Rovada will end up in the ULO cameras (ultra low oxygen, ultra low oxygen), so we will have currants available until mid-April of 2016", Says the producer.

Raspberries and blackberries from Tulameen

"The demand for Tulameen raspberries has been good so far and most of it has been sold under the program to supermarkets. This week we will start collecting the last raspberries and then we will start with the autumn raspberries at the end of August (Kwanza, Kweli), until around mid October", Indicates Nijs. "We have had a good demand for blackberries with a decent price these last five weeks. Unfortunately, the demand and the good price stalled last week and now the prices are below the cost price. Hopefully they recover".
