Blueberry producer from Serbia becomes Europe's first “Digital Plantation”

The Serbian blueberry producer DzodanBerry, with its Antares BioSensa project, is the first fruit company to start the European Digital Agriculture experimental project, implemented by the BioSense Institute in Novi Sad, which is the European Center of Scientific Excellence for information technologies advanced in the field of sustainable agriculture.

The best in Europe

The Serbian project Antares BioSensa won a competition that had several qualification and competition phases over two years, and in which around 200 projects from all over Europe, from the strongest European scientific research institutions, such as Oxford and Cambridge universities, the Max Planck Institute, Fraunhofer, and others.

The project presented by DzodanBerry passed each of the stages, until it deservedly and conclusively achieved first place, ahead of all the countries of the European Union (EU), despite the fact that Antares BioSensa was the only project financed outside the EU, in a collaborative partnership with the Wageningen Research Institute in the Netherlands, the world leader in the field of modern agriculture, and the Serbian Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development.

Digital plantation

With this important achievement, DzodanBerry has the opportunity to be the first “digital plantation” in Europe and to become the only one capable of combining traditional agriculture and cutting-edge, innovative and global computing solutions. All this in the perspective of improving production in their blueberry plantations (blueberries, in Serbian) and increase competitiveness.

The facilities where the Antares BioSensa project is implemented correspond to an area of ​​7ha that is 250 meters above sea level in Kosmaj, on the slopes of a mountain of virgin nature and located among forests, just 40 km from Belgrade and 20 km from the highway, making it an ideal logistics position for supplying the local market, as well as for transport to international markets.

The company produces approximately 100 tons of blueberries Duke and its infrastructure is very modern in its design, in addition to other advantageous factors that make it distinctive as an agricultural company, such as soil type and water quality, a favorable climate for cultivation, selection of the most suitable plant variety, good planting material, irrigation equipment, use of anti-hail nets, fertigation systems and cold storage on site, among other elements.

Its exports are mainly directed to the Netherlands, Italy, Israel and Germany and are certified by Global Gap.
