Blueberry producers highlight campaign results for the domestic market

The producers of the Argentine Committee of Blueberries (ABC) celebrated the "positive" results of the "Best with Blueberries" campaign, which were reflected in the increase of almost 200% in the entry of fruit to the Central Market with respect to figures of the 2016.

"We are starting to see the results of the work done this year, which included multiple actions and activities aimed at making the product known, its qualities and health benefits. The balance is highly positive ", said Federico Bayá, Chairman of the Committee.

The production of blueberries in our country began more than 20 years ago. Today the most representative productive areas are the NOA (Tucumán, Salta), the NEA (Entre Ríos, Corrientes) and the north of Buenos Aires. From the ABC anticipated that in the next campaign will seek to continue working to improve the dissemination of consumption and its federal reach.

The Central Market already reported that the increase in the entry of blueberries in October was 182,3%, with respect to the same month of 2016, with November being the period of highest income. "We consider that this is an important achievement that reaffirms the efforts made during the year and that we hope to sustain, so that more and more people incorporate this super fruit into their diet, know its benefits and improve their quality of life"said Bayá.

Until October Argentina would reach the 2940 tons of domestic consumption.

The "Best with Blueberries" promotion campaign has been coordinated with other initiatives, such as the "More Fruits and Vegetables" program of the Ministry of Agribusiness. Among its milestones was the Blueberry Week, during which multiple actions were carried out to disseminate and promote consumption, with tastings and offers throughout the country.

The ABC has focused its local campaign on the incorporation of cranberry into family food as a "healthy treat", or as part of meals and desserts. For this, it was sought to publicize more of its virtues, among which are its low fat content, being an antioxidant, a source of fiber and its high content of magnesium and vitamin C. It also helps to prevent urinary tract infections, cardiovascular diseases, cancer and premature aging, as it also collaborates with the body's digestive work and the reduction of bad cholesterol.
