Producers of Ñuble remain calm in front of the arrival of Peruvian blueberries
Chile is the world's largest producer of this product, but only an 2% goes to national consumption, this measure would allow to satisfy the demand that is generated in the country.
Chile is the world's largest producer of export blueberries, to such an extent that the international demand for the product grew by 50% in the last four years, which meant that national farmers went from 7.500 hectares destined to the plantation in 2006 almost 16.000, last year.
However, the Chilean production destines an 2% to the national consumption, therefore the arrival of the Peruvian blueberry is mainly for the demand that is generated in the country.
For Álvaro Gatica, local producer of export blueberries and union leader, the measure is viewed with caution. "As a producer, I think that we should not have repercussions because that makes it much easier for us to deliver our product to international markets, which will give us a greater impression“, indicated in the newspaper Crónica Chillán.
Gatica believes that the Ublins producers can rest assured that the area would not be affected by this measure.
